On March 17-18, 2026, the Uganda Forum for Agricultural Advisory Services (UFAAS), with support from the Platform for Agricultural Risk Management (PARM), convened private agricultural extension service actors to discuss the integration of holistic agricultural risk management (HARM) into agricultural service delivery.

The two-day workshop was held at the Grand Global Hotel in Kikoni, Kampala. It brought together over thirty participants from diverse institutions, including financial institutions, academia, civil society, farmer organizations, development partners, and the private sector.

The primary objective of the workshop was to create awareness of the importance and process of the HARM training, and to identify practical and collaborative ways for future short-term training on mainstreaming holistic agricultural risk management among private sector agricultural service providers. Through participatory methodologies including group discussions, plenary sessions, and reflective exercises, participants explored the Agricultural Risk Management (ARM) cycle, risk assessment tools, and the broader HARM framework.

The workshop builds on earlier efforts initiated in 2015 when PARM, with support from the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), introduced HARM to the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF). While significant progress had been made in training public sector extension officers, there remained a critical gap in equipping private sector agricultural service providers especially youth-led agribusinesses with the knowledge and tools to manage agricultural risks proactively.
