At the official opening of the 2026 Uganda National Agricultural Extension Week, Dr. Richard Miiro, Chairperson of the Uganda Forum for Agricultural Advisory Services (UFAAS), welcomed delegates and emphasized the need for stronger collaboration, innovation, and transformation in agricultural extension systems.

He highlighted a new partnership between UFAAS and the National Agricultural Research Organisation (NARO), aimed at speeding up the uptake of agricultural technologies and innovations through multi-stakeholder platforms. Linking the discussion to Uganda’s tenfold growth strategy, he stressed that agro-industrialization places new demands on extension services to become more effective, coordinated, and responsive.

Dr. Miiro called for breaking institutional silos, strengthening private sector involvement, and supporting young innovators in extension delivery. He also emphasised the need to professionalize and accredit extension services while embracing digital tools, including artificial intelligence, to scale advisory services.

He concluded by appreciating development partners and sponsors, as well as the organizing committees, for their support in making the event successful. The event took place on 20-24 April, 2026 at Silver Springs Hotel in Bugolobi, Kampala.
