At the official opening of the Uganda National Agricultural Extension Week (UGNAEW) 2026, Dr. Henry Opolot Nakalet, representing the Minister of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF), reaffirmed government’s strong commitment to strengthening agricultural extension and professionalizing the workforce.

In his remarks, he emphasized that extension workers are the backbone of Uganda’s agricultural transformation and urged them to uphold high professional standards, deliver tangible results for farmers, and remain committed despite the challenges such as low staffing.

He highlighted ongoing public investments in the sector and called on development partners to support not just projects, but sustainable systems. He also noted that MAAIF is developing a new extension strategy and a regulatory bill to streamline roles and improve coordination across the sector.
