Kampala, Uganda | April 2026
Uganda will host the Uganda National Agricultural Extension and Advisory Services Week (UGNAEW 2026) from 20th to 24th April 2026 at Silver Springs Hotel, Bugolobi, Kampala. The event is organized by the Uganda Forum for Agricultural Advisory Services (UFAAS) in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF), the African Forum for Agricultural Advisory Services (AFAAS), World Vision Uganda, GIZ, AGRA, and other partners.
Held under the theme:
“Unlocking Uganda’s Agricultural Potential: Multi-actor Agricultural Extension and Advisory Services for Resilient, Digital and Market-Oriented Agri-Food Ecosystems,”
the Extension Week will convene over 300 participants from across Uganda and beyond, including policymakers, extension practitioners, researchers, farmer organisations, private sector actors, and development partners.
Purpose of the Event
The Extension Week aims to strengthen agricultural extension and advisory services (AEAS) to better respond to the evolving demands of Uganda’s agri-food systems. It will promote multi-actor collaboration, innovation, and practical solutions to enhance productivity, resilience, and market integration.
Key Focus Areas
Discussions and knowledge exchange will be guided by four thematic areasTheme I: Scalable and market-driven extension models
Theme II: Extension for high-value agricultural value chains (including coffee, horticulture, livestock, and aquaculture)
Theme III: Climate-smart and resilient agricultural practices
Theme IV: Professionalisation of the agricultural extension workforce
Programme Highlights
The five-day programme will feature:
- High-level opening ceremony with keynote addresses and international perspectives
- Technical sessions and parallel workshops showcasing research, case studies, and innovations
- Capacity-building sessions on digital tools, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies in extension
- Side events and policy dialogues led by national and international organisations
- Exhibitions and partnership platforms for showcasing innovations and fostering collaboration
- Field visits to leading agricultural enterprises, research institutes, and innovation hubs
- Cultural gala and awards recognising excellence in agricultural extension
- Closing session and communiqué presentation outlining key policy and practice recommendations
Expected Outcomes
The event will generate a national communiqué to guide policy and investment in agricultural extension, while promoting:
- Adoption of scalable and innovative AEAS models
- Strengthened partnerships across the agri-food system
- Increased capacity in digitalisation, inclusiveness, and knowledge sharing
- Enhanced professionalism within the extension workforce
