The Uganda Forum for Agricultural Advisory Services (UFAAS), a country chapter of AFAAS, has partnered with the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) to implement the INGENAES Project, which stands for, ‘Integrating Gender and Nutrition within Agricultural Advisory Services’. INGENAES is sponsored by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) under the ‘Feed the Future’ programme, and strives “to increase agricultural production and the incomes of both men and women in rural areas who rely on agriculture for their livelihoods”.
The collaboration between UFAAS and INGENAES in Uganda aims at integrating and strengthening gender and nutrition within agricultural extension services in order to achieve the following:
- Enhance gender and nutrition awareness within farmer organizations through action oriented learning and capacity development.
- Support public sector extension strategy in the area of gender and nutrition integration within agricultural services.
- Create a robust community of practice for extentionists around gender and nutrition integration via networking and information sharing.
- Provide training and mentoring opportunities for young agricultural extension professionals through an INGENAES sponsored Graduate Fellows Programme.
