CHAIRPERSON’S MESSAGE

Agricultural Extension and Advisory Services (AEAS) have an enormous task of facilitating the agricultural transformation process in Uganda. As a result of policy reforms over the past decade, agricultural extension services in the country have moved away from being solely publicly provided to pluralism characterised by increasing participation by the private sector, civil society, and farmers’ organizations. This major shift not only brought many innovations and accomplishments, but also needs and challenges. Uganda Forum for Agricultural Advisory Services (UFAAS) the country chapter of the African Forum for Agricultural Advisory Services (AFAAS), together with partners and stakeholders in AEAS, under the guidance of the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, is organizing the 6th National Agricultural Extension Week in Uganda (UG-NAEW2026) which is planned to take place from 20th - 24th April 2026, at a Silver Springs Hotel, Bugolobi Kampala. The theme is: “Unlocking Uganda’s Agricultural Potential: Multi-actor supported Agricultural Extension and Advisory services for Inclusive, Resilient, Market-Oriented, Industrialized and digitized Agri-Food-systems.” The event is expected bring together over 500 different actors and stakeholders to deliberate on AEAS issues critical to agricultural development in Uganda and Africa at large. A high-level Agricultural Extension Coalition round-table policy dialogue was organized in Uganda by the Uganda Forum for Agricultural Advisory Services (UFAAS) in collaboration with the African Forum for Agricultural Advisory Services (AFAAS) and the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), under the theme “Agri-Food Innovation Systems: From Silos to Systems.” The meeting convened senior government officials, academia, private sector actors, civil society, development partners, extension practitioners, and farmers, to reflect on the current status and future of agricultural extension and advisory services (AEAS) in Uganda.
