
Frank Heavens Mufuruki
Youth Representative
Frank Heavens Mufuruki is an agricultural professional and educator passionate about fostering youth engagements, innovation, and sustainability in agricultural extension services. He serves as an Assistant Lecturer at Metropolitan International University and a Ph.D. fellow at Makerere University’s department of extension and innovation studies, where he provides teaching support. His work focuses on youth-driven, gender-responsive, and nutrition-sensitive agricultural innovations.
With expertise in participatory extension approaches, Frank has contributed to several impactful projects, including research on the coping strategies of fresh fruit traders during Uganda’s COVID-19 restrictions (http://hdl.handle.net/10570/14356), serves as a YPARD youth fellow for the GP-SAEP project-championing youth-driven agroecology transformation, and represents the Albertine agroecological zone with the World Food Forum (WFF). He has also collaborated with the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) to assess the effectiveness of the Rapid Tick Exposure Test (RaTexT) in combating tick resistance to acaricides among pastoral communities in Kiboga.
During his tenure as a Programs Officer at Amka Foundation Africa, Frank implemented several livelihood programs promoting climate-smart agriculture, conservation, and market linkages, strengthening resilience and productivity in farming communities. His passion for youth empowerment led him to establish the “Can I Still Become”? Charity drive, restoring career hope among young refugees.
Frank holds a Master of Science in Agricultural Extension Education and a Bachelor’s in Agricultural and Rural Innovation from Makerere University, making him a distinguished specialist in agricultural extension, rural innovation, and advisory services. As the UFAAS youth representative, he is committed to promoting youth participation in extension, advancing ICT-driven advisory services, and fostering innovative solutions that connect young practitioners with extension professionals.
