SUMMARY:Fourth National Agricultural Extension Week (NAEW) - 2023
DESCRIPTION:During 2020\, the 3rd National Extension symposium was held as an e-event\, given the prevailing situation of COVID-19 that year. Due to the stabilized situation\, the 4th National Extension event will be held physically for a week from 22nd to 26th May 2023. Hence the change of the name to a National Extension Week. SUMMARY:National Stakeholders’ Dialogue on Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA)
DESCRIPTION:UFAAS is pleased to invite National Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) actors and Stakeholders to a national stakeholder dialogue on Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) to be held on Thursday\, 3rd December\, 2020 at Hotel Africana from 9:00 am to 1:00pm (Please see the concept and program attached at the bottom). \nThe dialogue is organized in context of the CAADP-XP4 project which prioritizes climate smart agriculture (CSA) interventions through country fora of AFAAS\, such as the Uganda forum for Agricultural advisory services (UFAAS). The project aims to facilitate the scaling of CSA activities towards improved food and income security at national and regional level in Uganda. In this regard\, UFAAS received a grant to implement a project titled ‘Enhancing the scalability of CSA among AEAS actors in Uganda’. The project aims to facilitate the scaling of CSA activities towards improved food production and incomes both at national and regional levels in Uganda with the following objectives: \n1. To create an information and knowledge forum for continuous engagement of AEAS actors at sub-national\, national\, regional and continental CSA events; \n2. To strengthen capacities of national AEAS actors to participate and contribute to implementation of CSA activities; \n3. To facilitate the uptake and up-scaling of CSA innovations\, technologies and practices by all stakeholders; \n4. Engage stakeholders in the CSA discourse and profile CSA initiatives in Uganda. \nIt is against this backdrop that the proposed CSA Stakeholders’ Dialogue is organized. The dialogue will draw experiences from a range of stakeholders concerning their engagements in CSA related projects and activities regarding policy interventions\, research and implementation. The purpose of the dialogue is to discuss the current capacities of AEAS to deliver effective CSA interventions so as to inform both policy and practice with regard to building resilient agri-food systems in Uganda in pursuit of National Development Goals. \nThe main objectives of this dialogue are: \n1. Develop a common understanding of CSA and its central role in developing resilience of agri-food systems \n2. Highlight current capacities (gaps and needs) for effective country-wide CSA service delivery \n3. Agree on key policy recommendations for ensuring Agri-food systems resilience \n4. Establish a national CSA steering platform to promote integration of agreed policy recommendations at national and local government levels to ensure quick uptake of CSA practices across the country. \n5. SUMMARY:World Food Day - 2020
DESCRIPTION:World Food Day is celebrated every year on 16 October in over 150 countries to create awareness and action for SDG2: end hunger\, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture. \nFAO’s 75th anniversary coincides with the 75th anniversary of the UN and the beginning of the Decade of Action to Deliver the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. These initiatives are all taking place under exceptional circumstances\, as countries are dealing with the global effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite severe disruptions\, it is vital that the international community uses this opportunity to call for action and to look closely at the future we need to build together. \nMaintaining access to safe and nutritious food is and will be an essential part of the response to COVID-19\, particularly for the world’s poorest and most vulnerable\, who are being hit hardest by the pandemic and related economic shocks. World Food Day is calling for global solidarity to help the most vulnerable to recover from the crisis\, and to make food systems more resilient and robust so they can withstand increasing volatility and climate shocks\, deliver affordable and healthy diets for everyone\, and decent livelihoods for food system workers. For more information visit the FAO website.

INGENAES assists multiple types of stakeholders such as farmers\, producer groups\, cooperatives\, policy makers\, development non-governmental organization (NGO) practitioners\, and donors. \nFor the last 2 years\, UFAAS together with the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign (UIUC) have been implementing the INGENAES Project in Uganda to support the farmers based organizations (FBOs)\, NGOs and the Public Sector and selected University Fellows to integrate Gender and Nutrition within their extension and related work. This was supported through sensitization and training\, facilitating a Community of practice (CoP) of AEAS actors for interaction and sharing; and supporting a Fellowship Program for students and young professionals’ capacity building in gender and nutrition. \nAs this project comes to a close\, a national symposium is being organized to will bring together extension stakeholders across Uganda to deliberate on enhancing agricultural extension’s capacity and quality to address needs of women and men farmers\, with a special focus on Gender and Nutrition and professionalism. \nPurpose\nTo bring together thought leaders\, practitioners\, academicians\, private sector organizations\, and NGOs to deliberate on: What has worked\, how do we build what is working and how do we ensure an enabling environment for integrating Gender and Nutrition within Agriculture extension within the context of Uganda. \nObjectives\n1. To explore and showcase successes\, challenges\, lessons learned in integrating gender responsive and nutrition sensitive approaches within extension service delivery;\n2.
